Director of NrityaYogsutra –Dr. Sangeeta Pethkar
If NrityaYogsutra is a force in itself, the heart and soul behind it is Dr. Sangeeta Pethkar. Her passion for classical dance, an important component of NrityaYogsutra, shone through at the tender age of seven years. A trained exponent in the Indian classical dance forms of Bharatnatyam and Odissi, Dr. Sangeeta has been the recipient of priceless training and guidance from eminent names like Kelucharan Mohapatra and C. V. Chandrasekhar.
Furthermore, Dr. Sangeeta harboured a keen interest in learning the science of Yoga. Her growing up years were spent learning Yoga through numerous workshops and further from Yog Vidya Dham & diploma in Yoga science. This confluence of interests in Indian classical dance and the science of Yoga introduced Dr. Sangeeta to the many similarities between the two entities. A comparative study later, it was obvious to her that the two forms shared a metaphysical and philosophical bond. In due course, she also discovered the benefits of Acupressure & Hastamudra that were obtainable by performing Indian classical dance.
An accumulation and regular honing of this knowledge and insight over the years enabled Dr. Sangeeta to design and create 78 completely new body movements.
Her qualification as a medical practitioner further helped her to identify the health benefits of these 78 body movements that each of these were capable of, carrying immense therapeutic value, which ultimately leads to a fitter body and mind when combined with controlled breathing, relaxing background music and a serene environment.
Dr. Sangeeta is also a prolific writer and has many of her dance-centric articles published regularly in newspapers.
She has featured as the main guest in an interview program produced and aired by Radio Aakashwani while also
being interviewed by many renowned newspapers like The Times of India, Divya Marathi etc. She counts among
her laurels numerous 'Awards & Certificates of Appreciation’ from Phoenix India ,Shivsena, Lokmat, social organizations like
Lions,Jaycees, Rotary, Brahmakumaris and many others.
Dr. Sangeeta regularly conducts workshops and lectures/demonstrations of NrityaYogSutra explaining its spiritual
and therapeutic value. International yoga festivals, social clubs, spiritual and wellness centres and educational
institutes are among the most loyal patrons of such workshops and programs by Dr. Sangeeta.
