The term NrityaYogsutra is an amalgamation of three distinct words, viz. Nritya, Yoga, and Sutra.

Indian classical dance is essentially a vast set of highly graceful and balanced body movements that were originally designed to tell stories; epics that described the struggle between good and bad. This dance form relies upon extensive use of hand gestures (known as Mudras) and myriad facial expressions;and these two lie at the heart of Nritya. Similarly, ancient India witnessed the arrival and popularity of a dance form known as Pancham Veda, , a sacred text with spiritual dimension) based on 4 Vedas namely Rig Veda, Yajur Veda, Sama Veda and Atharvana Veda which was taught by Indian saints as a form of Yoga.

Yoga, on the other hand, aims to bring a sense of coherence to the body and mind by using a wide variety of physical postures that are performed in perfect synchronization with one’s breathing cycle. The term Sutra literally translates into a continuous thread; a thread that binds together Nritya and Yoga. Alternatively, Sutra also means a way of life. NrityaYogsutra, as such, is a way of life that is inspired from the best elements of the art of Nritya and the science and spirituality of Yoga.
NrityaYogSutra basically combines Asanas (Yogic movements) and Hasta Mudras(hand gestures as practiced in Indian classical dance), which is then performed to music that soothes the soul and aids in meditation. NrityaYogSutra harnesses the power of Acupressure and the human body’s various Chakras (energies) to achieve wide-ranging physical, mental and spiritual benefits.
